Fort Smith Arkansas

At the border of Arkansas, we stopped at a town called Fort Smith.
(This is where Carrie's Grandfather came from as a teenager)

The site of the fort was interesting, with lots of memorabelia.
It was known as a western frontier town, but was known mostly as the central point for the Trail of Tears migration point, through which the Native American Tribes passed to their Oklahoma destination.

Smith Rock is also known for it's judges and outlaws and Rangers. Lots of memorabilia from all 3, inlcuding original guns / badges / jail cells, etc. We spent some time down in the jail cell, but it was much nicer smelling now.

Outside we toured around the Gallows, which became famous after the local judge had tens of people hung there in his tenure. It was a bit eerie walking around the Gallows and knowing how many people died there. (Rope was hung from large timber towards the top, and the raised floor had a trap door that would drop open.)
